MyCaptain Product
The Challenge /
To design a custom learning management system(LMS) for MyCaptain, a platform where students can explore various career options through live and interactive workshops with young mentors.
My Experience /
Working on the MyCaptain product has been an all round experience from testing the product idea on Whatsapp groups to building an app students enjoy learning on. Having big plans from early on like introducing AI powered conversational UI despite very few technological resources, we built our product from ground up. Designing this product made me venture into various unknown territories like course structure design and understanding the basics of coding and I enjoyed it thoroughly! As our organisation grew we looped in different teams to get their inputs on how to enhance the user experience. We've always taken the user first approach at MyCaptain and the product continues to grow and evolve based on these principles.

Ideation & Brainstorming anywhere and everywhere.
A Mural board was created where all the teams including the operations, marketing and customer support teams were invited to contribute ideas to make the user journey smooth for the mentees as well as the Captains.
The Wireframes /
After mapping out the user flow and detailing various user scenarios like: 1st time user, 1st time user who pays on the website, 1st time user who has paid offline, recurring user with workshops scheduled, 1st time user who has paid but not scheduled workshop month, etc we went on to creating the high fidelity wireframes on sketch. At this stage importance was given to simplicity of navigation and intuitiveness. Since majority of the mentees use a mobile for their workshops we did not focus on the web interface for mentees for the 1st iteration. We wanted to encourage captains to use their desktops for conducting the sessions for a better experience for mentees. However we did not want to compromise on the Captain's ease of use hence we provided a few functionalities like requesting to change the discussion schedule and evaluating relevant tasks on the mobile app.

Visual Language and UI /
Learning on the MyCaptain should be an exciting experience welcoming the students to embark on a joyful journey of exploration.
MyCaptain is a platform for students to explore, interact and get inspired. One of our main goals when defining the visual language was to maintain the consistency of the brand personality across the app. MyCaptain values human interaction in learning and education. Hence, our visual language is conversational making use of illustrations to celebrate small wins of the user on their journey or to support the user when they face a problem.
The content for workshops is also heavily illustrated to explain concepts better. This required us to create a playful style that could be scaled easily. We have created more than 5000 illustrations for the platform.
